Dissidia Duellum Final Fantasy Is Buffing Six Abilities In May 2026

Square Enix has confirmed a small but important balance update for Dissidia Duellum Final Fantasy, with six abilities set to receive buffs before the end of May 2026.

The interesting part? The company has already named the affected abilities, but hasn’t explained exactly what will change yet. So for now, players know what is being adjusted, but not whether the buffs will mean higher damage, better cooldowns, improved targeting, cleaner hit detection, or something else entirely.

Still, if you’ve been grinding the mobile game seriously — especially if you’re running Lightning or Zidane — this is worth paying attention to.

Square Enix also said every player will receive 10 Draw Tickets as compensation because these abilities were apparently not working as intended before the planned maintenance. For Malaysian and SEA players, that’s the kind of freebie you definitely don’t ignore, especially in a mobile gacha where every pull matters.

Six Abilities Are Getting Buffed

The update will affect three SR abilities and three UR abilities. Most of them are tied closely to specific Final Fantasy characters, so if you don’t use those characters — or haven’t pulled the skills — you may not have noticed anything weird.

Here are the six abilities Square Enix listed:

  • SR Finishing Touch — Cloud’s area-of-effect attack that launches enemies.
  • SR Grav-con Unit — Lightning’s buff that temporarily increases her action speed.
  • SR Sleight of Hand — Zidane’s area-of-effect ability that can steal Bravery from enemies, as long as they are not shielded or in Burst.
  • UR Gachirin — Iroha’s area attack where she can briefly teleport forward to strike. It can combo if her other skills are available, and she becomes temporarily invincible while using it.
  • UR Grand Lethal — Zidane’s area attack that also gives him temporary invincibility during use.
  • UR Thunderfall — Lightning’s area attack, with temporary invincibility while activated.

The biggest winners here look like Lightning and Zidane, since both characters have one SR and one UR ability included in the buff list. If either of them is part of your regular lineup, this patch could change how they feel in actual fights.

Why SEA Players Should Care

For Malaysian players, this matters because mobile games live or die by how fair their gacha and combat systems feel. If a rare UR ability is underperforming or not behaving properly, that’s frustrating — especially if you spent saved currency, tickets, or real money chasing it.

The 10 Draw Tickets don’t fully explain what went wrong, but they do suggest Square Enix knows the issue affected player value. In a region like SEA, where mobile RPGs and gacha games are massive, compensation like this can help keep players from feeling burned.

Also, buffs to invincibility-based attacks can be a big deal. Skills like Gachirin, Grand Lethal, and Thunderfall are not just damage buttons — they can affect timing, survivability, and boss pressure. If these become more reliable after maintenance, certain team comps may feel smoother.

May 7 Maintenance Comes First

Before the late-May ability buffs, Dissidia Duellum Final Fantasy will also go through another maintenance period on May 7, 2026.

That update is expected to fix a bug preventing some players from using Burst or certain abilities against bosses. After the fix, King Behemoth will only appear once a player moves beyond Gold and reaches Diamond.

That’s a sensible change, honestly. Throwing tougher boss encounters too early can make progression feel messy, especially for players still learning matchups or building their roster.

Dissidia Duellum Final Fantasy is available now on mobile devices. The six listed SR and UR abilities are scheduled to be buffed in late May 2026.
