Toei Animation is bringing Expelled from Paradise back, but not as another action game or anime spin-off. The newly announced project is a visual novel titled Expelled from Paradise -The Stellar Angel-, and it is planned for Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam worldwide in Winter 2026.

For Malaysian and SEA fans, the big win here is simple: this is not looking like a Japan-only release that needs fan translation gymnastics. Toei Animation has confirmed Japanese and English language support, which makes the game much easier to jump into for anime fans across the region who discovered the 2014 movie later through streaming, Blu-ray, or mecha/anime circles.

Development is being handled by Studio51, with the story bringing back two familiar faces: Angela Balzac and Dingo. These are the core characters from the original Expelled from Paradise movie, so this is not a random side project using the name for nostalgia points. The visual novel will explore what happens after the events of the original film.

That part is interesting because Angela and Dingo have already made a gaming appearance before, popping up in Bandai Namco’s crossover title Super Robot Wars T back in 2019. But that was a crossover setting. The Stellar Angel sounds more like a direct narrative follow-up, which should make it more appealing to fans who care about the actual world and character arcs of Expelled from Paradise.

If you are new to the series, Expelled from Paradise is one of those sci-fi anime titles that still gets mentioned because of its stylish CG animation, post-human digital society setup, and strong creative pedigree. A visual novel format actually makes sense here. Instead of forcing the IP into another combat-focused structure, Toei can lean into character dialogue, worldbuilding, branching scenes, and the heavier sci-fi ideas that made the movie memorable.

There are still some big unknowns. Toei Animation has not revealed the full staff list for the game yet. Most importantly, it has not confirmed whether Gen Urobuchi is directly involved in the visual novel’s development. The Japanese press release only referenced Urobuchi in relation to the original 2014 film and the upcoming sequel movie, Expelled from Paradise: Resonance.

That sequel film is also on the way, but it is a separate project. Expelled from Paradise: Resonance will feature a new cast of characters and is scheduled to open in Japanese theaters on November 13, 2026. So yes, 2026 is shaping up to be a properly busy year for this franchise.

For SEA players, the platform choices are practical. Switch remains one of the easiest anime-game machines to recommend, while Steam means PC players in Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand, and the Philippines should not be locked out if the worldwide rollout lands cleanly. Visual novels also tend to be pretty friendly for lower-spec laptops, though we will need official requirements before saying more.

For now, Expelled from Paradise -The Stellar Angel- is confirmed for Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam in Winter 2026, with worldwide release plans and both Japanese and English text support.
