The Pokémon franchise just dropped a small but very cosy treat for English-speaking fans: Pokémon: Dragonite and the Special Delivery is now streaming with an English dub on the official Pokémon YouTube channel.
The short, originally known in Japanese as Kairyū to Yūbinya-san — basically Dragonite and the Mailman — first debuted on Pokémon Day in February 2025. Now that it has an English dub, it becomes much easier for Malaysian and SEA fans to enjoy without needing to rely on subtitles, especially younger viewers who grew up with Pokémon on TV or YouTube.
What is the Dragonite short about?
The story follows Hana, a girl who looks up to a Dragonite working as a postal delivery Pokémon. One day, she comes across a letter with no clear recipient. Instead of just leaving it alone, Hana heads out with her partner Pokémon Fuecoco to track down who sent it.
That search leads her to Rio, a boy who meant to send the letter to his father. The emotional hook? His dad is working overseas in the Kanto region, and Rio wants the letter to reach him before his birthday. But with time running out, the delivery may not make it in time.
It is a simple setup, but very Pokémon in the best way: cute partner Pokémon, a kid with a heartfelt mission, and a Dragonite doing wholesome community work. Honestly, Dragonite as a postal worker makes too much sense. Big, fast, friendly, dependable — bro is basically Pos Malaysia premium delivery with wings.
Why Malaysian and SEA fans should care
For Pokémon fans here, this is the kind of short that hits differently because the idea of family members working away from home is very familiar in Southeast Asia. Whether it is parents working in another city, relatives overseas, or long-distance family life across borders, the letter storyline has a real emotional angle.

The team behind the short
The anime was directed and storyboarded by Taku Kimura, known for work including Star Wars: Visions episode “Tatooine Rhapsody” and Osana Najimi no Carbou. The script was written and supervised by Kentarō Nana.
Character designs came from Asuka Dokai, who worked on Snorunt’s Summer Vacation, while Maho Aoki adapted the designs for animation and also served as animation director. Tasuku Watanabe handled art direction.
The music side is also stacked: Evan Call, the composer behind Violet Evergarden, Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End, and My Happy Marriage, composed the short’s music. He also worked on the theme song “Kami Hikōki” (Paper Airplane), performed by suis, vocalist of yorushika.
So yes, this may be a short Pokémon side story, but the production names are not small-small. If you like wholesome anime shorts with polished visuals and emotional music, this one is worth adding to your watchlist.
