Scooby-Doo is officially getting the anime treatment, and honestly, this is one of those crossover ideas that sounds weird for five seconds before it starts making total sense.
The new series is titled Yokoso Scooby-Doo!, a reworked version of the project previously known as Go Go Mystery Machine. It will be the franchise’s first full anime series, with Scooby-Doo and Shaggy heading to Japan for a new mystery-packed adventure.
For viewers in the United States, the show will stream exclusively on Tubi. Outside the US, Warner Bros. Animation plans to bring it to Cartoon Network across international territories. That last bit is the one Malaysian and SEA fans should watch closely, because it means our side of the world is more likely to get the series through Cartoon Network-related distribution rather than Tubi. No confirmed Malaysia release date yet, so jangan panic — we wait for local platform details.
OLM Is Handling The Anime Production
The biggest reason anime fans should pay attention is the studio attached to this thing. OLM is producing the animation, and that name carries weight. This is the studio linked with major franchises like Pokémon, Beyblade Burst, and Komi Can’t Communicate.
That doesn’t automatically mean Yokoso Scooby-Doo! will look like a battle shonen, of course. But OLM is very comfortable with colourful character comedy, expressive reactions, creature designs, and kid-friendly adventure shows — basically the exact toolkit Scooby-Doo needs if it wants to become anime without losing its old-school cartoon soul.
The series will be directed by Itsuro Kawasaki, with Francisco Paredes serving as co-producer. Warner Bros. Animation is overseeing the project overall.
Shaggy And Scooby Are Back, Bro
Two familiar voices are already confirmed. Frank Welker returns as Scooby-Doo, while Matthew Lillard is back as Shaggy. That matters because Scooby and Shaggy are the whole vibe. You can change the setting, art style, monsters, and supporting cast, but if those two don’t feel right, the whole mystery machine stalls.
The new cast additions have not been announced yet, but the story already introduces several fresh faces. The setup has Scooby and Shaggy visiting Japan for what sounds like the ultimate makan trip. Somehow, very on-brand for them, they accidentally release hundreds of mythical monsters across the country.
To clean up the chaos, they team up with Daisuke-Doo, Scooby’s uncle, plus new allies Yume, described as a magical girl, and Takumi, a gadget expert. So yes, we are getting Scooby-Doo with Japanese folklore, magical girl energy, tech gadgets, and probably a lot of screaming from Shaggy. Peak Saturday morning chaos.
Why SEA Fans Should Care
Scooby-Doo has always been one of those franchises many Malaysians grew up watching through Cartoon Network, DVD reruns, or random TV slots after school. Turning it into anime feels like Warner Bros. trying to speak to a generation that grew up with both Western cartoons and Japanese animation at the same time.
For SEA audiences, that blend is pretty natural. We already jump from Pokémon to Ben 10 to Naruto to Adventure Time without overthinking it. If Yokoso Scooby-Doo! nails the balance — spooky-but-funny mysteries, anime-style action, and enough Japanese myth flavour — this could be a surprisingly fun gateway show for younger viewers and a nostalgia watch for older fans.
No release window has been announced yet, and there is no Malaysia-specific streaming confirmation at the time of writing. But with Cartoon Network listed for international territories, this is one to keep on the radar.
