Leon Fou Bartfort is coming back to ruin another otome-game power structure, and honestly, good. Kadokawa has released the first promotional video for Trapped in a Dating Sim: The World of Otome Games is Tough for Mobs Season 2, confirming that the anime will premiere in July.

That puts the series right into the Summer 2026 anime window, which is already shaping up to be pretty competitive. For Malaysian and SEA fans who love isekai with a more sarcastic, game-system angle, this is one to keep on the seasonal watchlist.

Alongside the trailer, Kadokawa also revealed the anime’s first key visual, drawn by returning character designer Masahiko Suzuki. New character visuals were also shown for returning cast members, including Kenichi Suzumura as Julius Rapha Holfort.

Why this series still hits

For anyone who missed Season 1, Trapped in a Dating Sim follows Leon, an office worker who gets reincarnated into a brutal otome game world. It is not the fun wish-fulfilment kind either. In this setting, women hold most of the social power, attractive elite men get the spotlight, and background characters are basically treated like disposable NPCs.

Leon’s advantage is that he remembers the game from his previous life, including how to clear it. Instead of chasing glory, though, his dream is very relatable: make enough moves to survive, shake up the world a bit, then retire somewhere quiet and chill.

That mix of isekai, dating sim parody, class politics, and Leon being a menace is what made the first season stand out. It is not the prettiest anime in the genre, but the hook is strong, especially if you enjoy shows that poke fun at game tropes instead of just copying them.

Returning staff for Season 2

The second season is again being directed by Kazuya Miura at ENGI. Miura previously worked on titles including DRAMAtical Murder, Full Dive, and Uzaki-chan Wants to Hang Out!.

Kenta Ihara is also back to handle series scripts. His past credits include Cautious Hero, Full Dive, Mieruko-chan, and Saga of Tanya the Evil, so the show is keeping one of the key people behind its tone and structure.

Masahiko Suzuki returns as both character designer and chief animation director. For Season 2, Tetsuya Watanabe joins as CG director, while Shin’ichi Komeya takes over as compositing director of photography from Tomoyuki Ishiyama.

Catch-up details for Malaysian fans

The first season aired in April 2022, with Crunchyroll streaming it as it broadcast, including an English dub. No specific Malaysia or SEA streaming announcement for Season 2 was included in the reveal, so fans here should wait for platform confirmation closer to July.

The anime is based on the light novel series by Yomu Mishima, which started on the Shōsetsuka ni Narō website in 2017. Micro Magazine later published the print edition under its GC Novels imprint with illustrations by Monda. The main novel series concluded with Volume 13, released in Japan in March 2024.

There is also a manga adaptation, originally drawn by Jun Shiosato, which has moved across several Kadokawa platforms over the years before landing in Monthly Dragon Age. The manga later relaunched in August 2025 as Trapped in a Dating Sim: The World of Otome Games is Tough for Mobs Study Abroad Arc, with Tanuki Odoro on art, Seishirō Matsuri handling composition, and FTops on production.

For SEA anime fans, the big thing is simple: July now has another returning isekai title with a proven fanbase. If Season 2 can sharpen the pacing and give Leon more room to be an absolute problem, this could be a fun weekly watch.
