Some Xbox Players Got Lego Batman Early After Walmart Code Mix-Up
A few lucky Xbox players managed to enter Gotham earlier than planned, after a Walmart-related code mix-up apparently unlocked Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight before its official release window.
The game is scheduled to launch on May 22, with Deluxe Edition buyers getting access from May 19. But according to a post spotted on the Lego gaming subreddit, at least one Xbox user who pre-ordered the game found that it did not just download for preload — it actually launched.
That is the kind of accidental early access that makes every Batman fan immediately sit up. Usually, pre-orders let you install the files first, then the platform blocks you until the official unlock time. In this case, commenters eventually worked out that the issue seemed tied to US Walmart codes. Instead of only granting preload permission, the codes reportedly gave players the full green light to start playing.
Before anyone in Malaysia starts checking every online store like it is a midnight Shopee sale, the loophole appears to be gone. Other users who tried the same route later said it had already been patched and no longer worked.
For Malaysian and SEA players, the main takeaway is not really “how do I get it early?” — because this was tied to a very specific US retail situation. The bigger thing to watch is spoilers. Once even a small number of players get into a game ahead of schedule, clips can spread fast through Reddit, X, TikTok, YouTube Shorts, and Discord servers. If you are planning to experience the story fresh, it is probably time to mute a few keywords.
What makes this case a bit funny is that the original Reddit user did not seem desperate to flex early gameplay. They reportedly said they would rather wait for the official release so they could enjoy it alongside everyone else. That is honestly rare in an era where leaked footage usually gets uploaded faster than you can say “Gotham.” They also avoided sharing performance details because they did not want to spoil things for other players.
There is already plenty of interest around Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight, especially because it sounds like a bigger Batman celebration rather than just another quick licensed Lego game. James Gunn has also said the game will let players experience Batman perhaps more fully than before, which is a pretty strong tease for fans of the character.
For SEA fans who grew up with Lego games on shared consoles, cyber cafes, or family living room co-op, this one has proper nostalgia power. Lego Batman has always worked because it makes the Dark Knight fun without stripping away the cool factor. If this new entry really mixes Batman history with that classic Lego comedy, it could be a strong comfort-game pick when it officially lands.
For now, though, unless you were one of the few Xbox players who slipped through the Walmart crack, Gotham stays locked until launch. Everyone else: keep your spoiler shields up.
