Xbox Opens Player Voice Portal, Fans Ask For Proper Exclusives

Microsoft is trying to get Xbox players talking directly to the company again — and surprise, surprise, the loudest request so far is simple: give Xbox proper exclusive games.

The company has launched Xbox Player Voice, a public feedback portal where fans can post suggestions, vote on ideas, and comment on what they want from the brand. It works a bit like a community forum, with Microsoft warning users not to share personal information because posts are visible to everyone.

This comes around three months after Asha Sharma took over Xbox, during a period where the brand has already been shifting direction. According to Eurogamer, recent changes include moving away from the “This Is an Xbox” campaign and adjusting Game Pass pricing while new Call of Duty releases are no longer arriving on the service on day one.

So yes, Xbox is clearly trying to reset the conversation.

Fans want Xbox to feel special again

The top-voted request on Xbox Player Voice is already sitting at over 6,000 upvotes, and it is not subtle. Players are asking for “EXCLUSIVES”, arguing that Xbox was originally built on strong first-party games and that it is hard to convince people to buy the console if it does not offer something meaningfully different from competitors.

That point hits especially hard in Malaysia and SEA, where Xbox has never had the same mainstream pull as PlayStation, Nintendo, PC gaming, or mobile. For many local players, Xbox is not the default living-room console — it is often seen through Game Pass, PC access, or imported hardware pricing. If Microsoft wants more players here to care about Xbox as a platform, “play anywhere” is nice, but killer games still matter.

At the same time, not everyone agrees that exclusives alone will fix things. Some players responding on the portal argue that expensive single-purpose console hardware is not attractive anymore, especially when gaming PCs, handhelds, and cloud-style ecosystems are becoming more flexible.

Honestly, that is a very SEA-relevant argument. When every ringgit counts, a console needs a clear reason to exist. If the games are also available elsewhere, many Malaysian gamers will just stick to PC, PlayStation, or mobile.

Backward compatibility and free online multiplayer also in demand

Beyond exclusives, players are also backing requests for Xbox to restart or expand its backward compatibility work. That makes sense — one of Xbox’s strongest goodwill wins over the years was letting people carry older games forward instead of forcing everything into a new-gen reset.

Another popular ask is for online multiplayer to be free, separated from Game Pass subscriptions. That conversation is extra spicy right now because Sony has just confirmed PlayStation Plus price increases for new subscribers. If Xbox can make online play feel less locked behind subscriptions, it could be a serious value play — especially in markets like Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines, and Thailand, where recurring subscription costs are judged very carefully.

Xbox’s next-gen problem is bigger than one portal

The timing is interesting because Xbox is also heading toward its next hardware cycle. Eurogamer notes that Project Helix may be affected by rising memory and component costs caused by ongoing shortages. That means Microsoft could be trying to build new hardware at a moment when pricing pressure is already nasty.

There are also wider issues affecting player sentiment. Eurogamer highlights project cancellations, internal Xbox problems, and the fact that Microsoft and Xbox remain targets of the BDS movement over reported complicity in Israeli war crimes against Palestinians.

Meanwhile, Sony has said it plans to keep its first-party single-player games exclusive to PlayStation consoles for the foreseeable future. That sets up a very clear contrast: PlayStation is doubling down on exclusives, while Xbox is asking players what they want next.

The answer, at least for now, is very loud: fans want Xbox to give them a real reason to choose Xbox again.
