Apple’s latest iPad Air with the M4 chip has only been around for a few months, but it has already received a proper price cut on Amazon.
According to IGN, the 2026 8th-gen iPad Air launched earlier this year at a starting price of $599. For Amazon Prime Day, the price has dropped to $519.99, which is $80 below Apple’s usual MSRP. IGN notes that this matches the lowest price seen for the tablet since launch.
For Malaysian and SEA buyers, the usual caveat applies: this is a US Amazon deal, so don’t just convert USD to RM and smash checkout without checking shipping, import fees, plug/accessory differences, and warranty coverage. But as a price signal, it’s still worth paying attention to — especially if local retailers eventually follow with their own promos.
Why the M4 iPad Air is a bigger upgrade than usual
A lot of iPad refreshes are honestly quite boring. Apple swaps the chip, keeps everything else mostly the same, and calls it a day. This 2026 iPad Air is a bit more interesting.
The headline upgrade is the Apple M4 chip, which IGN says is around 20% to 30% faster than the M3 chip in the previous-generation model. That matters if you use the iPad Air for heavier stuff like video editing, digital art, multitasking, or games that actually push the hardware.
For SEA students, creators, and mobile-first gamers, this is the kind of tablet that can realistically double as a work machine and entertainment device. You can edit content, sketch with Apple Pencil, watch anime, run productivity apps, and still have enough power for big mobile titles.
More RAM makes this model more future-proof
The sneaky big upgrade is memory. The new iPad Air moves from 8GB RAM to 12GB RAM, a 50% increase over the previous model.
That’s not as flashy as saying “M4 chip”, but it may matter more day-to-day. More RAM should help when jumping between demanding apps, using split-screen workflows, or running Apple Intelligence features. If you keep your tablet for four to five years, this extra memory is a nice buffer against future app bloat.
The tablet also supports Apple Intelligence, including features like Genmoji, Writing Tools, and AI-enhanced Siri. Whether that is a must-have depends on your workflow, but for students and creators, built-in writing and AI tools could become genuinely useful over time.
Wi-Fi 7 finally lands on iPad Air
Apple also added its newer N1 wireless chip, bringing Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6 support to the iPad Air.
Wi-Fi 7 is still not something every Malaysian home has right now, but this is good future-proofing. If you already have a high-end router or plan to upgrade your home network, the iPad Air should be ready for faster wireless speeds. Bluetooth 6 also promises better latency and power efficiency compared to Bluetooth 5, which is good news if you rely on wireless earbuds, keyboards, or controllers.
The rest stays familiar
The rest of the spec sheet is mostly carried over. You still get an 11-inch 2360x1640 Liquid Retina display at 264ppi, with P3 Wide Color and True Tone. IGN notes that the screen is better than the one on the standard iPad.
Accessory support is also strong: the iPad Air works with Apple Pencil Pro, Apple Pencil USB-C, and Magic Keyboard. Apple also released a newer Magic Keyboard model earlier this year that is specifically made for the iPad Air.
Bottom line: if you’re in Malaysia, this Amazon price may not instantly translate into the best local buy once shipping and warranty are included. But the discount makes the 2026 iPad Air M4 look more attractive, and if local pricing starts moving too, this could be one of the better premium tablet picks for students, creators, and mobile gamers.
