GMKtec NucBox M3 Pro Packs Core i5 Power Into a Tiny Desktop Box

GMKtec has launched its new NucBox M3 Pro mini PC globally, and this one is aimed squarely at users who want proper laptop-class Intel performance without committing desk space to a full tower.

At the heart of the NucBox M3 Pro is Intel’s 13th Gen Core i5-13500H, a 12-core, 16-thread chip with turbo speeds up to 4.7GHz. That is the kind of processor you normally see in productivity laptops, so for a tiny desktop box, it should be more than enough for everyday work, browser chaos, office apps, streaming, light creative tasks, and general multitasking.

For Malaysian and SEA users, the appeal is pretty obvious: space is expensive, dorm desks are tiny, and not everyone wants a giant RGB casing under the table. A mini PC like this makes sense for students, home office setups, small businesses, or anyone building a clean living room media station.

GMKtec is positioning the M3 Pro for a few different use cases, including portable productivity, a 4K living room media centre, student entertainment and study setups, smart soft-router networking, and AI-assisted document editing workflows. That last bit is especially relevant now that more users are testing AI tools for writing, summarising, and office work, though this is still more of a compact productivity PC than a dedicated AI workstation.

One useful feature is triple-display 4K output support. If you are the type who runs one monitor for work, one for Discord or YouTube, and one for charts, documents, or guides, this could be a neat compact option. For esports fans or stream viewers, it also makes sense as a living room box hooked up to a big TV while still being flexible enough for desktop use.

Storage expansion is another strong point. GMKtec says the system includes an additional M.2 2242 SATA/PCIe expansion slot, with up to 4TB of combined internal expansion capability. That matters because mini PCs can sometimes feel a bit limited once you start installing games, media files, work projects, and Windows updates. Having room to grow is a win.

Pricing starts at US$329.99 for the barebone model, down from an MSRP of US$399.99. The 16GB RAM + 512GB SSD version is listed at US$479.99, while the 32GB RAM + 1TB SSD model goes for US$679.99. Based on rough conversion, Malaysians are looking at around RM1,550, RM2,250, and RM3,190 respectively before shipping, tax, and local marketplace markups.

That puts the M3 Pro in an interesting spot. It is not exactly “cheap-cheap”, especially once you compare it with used desktops or budget DIY builds. But if you care about size, low clutter, and an easy plug-and-play setup, the value starts to make more sense. For students in hostel rooms, creators with limited desk space, or office users who just want a clean Windows machine, this is the kind of hardware that can quietly do a lot.

The main thing to watch for Malaysian buyers will be local availability, warranty support, and final landed pricing. Mini PCs often look tempting from global pricing alone, but shipping and after-sales service can change the whole equation. Still, on paper, the NucBox M3 Pro looks like a practical compact desktop for users who want more CPU muscle than a basic office box without going full gaming rig.
