Nintendo’s New Star Fox Makes That Ocarina Of Time Switch 2 Rumour Feel Less Random

Nintendo has confirmed that Star Fox is coming back on Switch 2 this year, and while that alone is already big news for longtime Nintendo fans, the more interesting part might be what it suggests about another rumour: a possible The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake.

The new Star Fox is set for June 25 on Switch 2, and according to Polygon, it is another remake of Star Fox 64. Yes, Nintendo is going back to the N64 well again. Depending on how you feel about Nintendo’s remake-heavy strategy, that either sounds like comfort food or macam “bro, new game when?”

But there is a pattern here that makes this reveal worth watching.

Back in 2011, Nintendo launched Star Fox 64 3D on the Nintendo 3DS. Around the same period, it also released The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D. Both were upgraded versions of beloved Nintendo 64 games, and both helped strengthen the 3DS library during a rough early phase for the handheld.

Now in 2026, Nintendo may be running a similar playbook for Switch 2: one confirmed Star Fox remake, and one rumoured Ocarina of Time remake reportedly planned for the second half of the year.

To be clear, Nintendo has not officially announced a new Ocarina of Time remake. So don’t go pre-ordering anything yet. But the rumour has gained more attention because of leaker NateTheHate, who claimed earlier this year that Nintendo had both a new Star Fox and an Ocarina of Time remake in development. The Star Fox part has now been confirmed, and Polygon notes that the same leaker also correctly called summer releases for Splatoon Raiders and Rhythm Heaven Groove before Nintendo announced them.

That does not make the Zelda rumour a guaranteed thing, but it does make it harder to dismiss.

For Malaysia and SEA players, this is the kind of Switch 2 news that actually matters. Nintendo hardware here is never cheap, and plenty of fans will be weighing whether Switch 2 is worth jumping into early or whether to wait for a stronger game library. A fresh 3D Mario is reportedly still not near, there is no direct follow-up yet to Tears of the Kingdom, and Animal Crossing: New Horizons fans are still waiting for the next big life-sim wave.

So even if remakes are technically “old games,” the right ones can carry a console’s early years. Ocarina of Time is not just another Zelda title; it is one of the games that shaped modern 3D adventure design. A proper Switch 2 remake could be a massive entry point for younger players who only know Zelda from Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom.

It also makes sense from a wider Nintendo strategy angle. The Legend of Zelda movie is coming in 2027, and there are also fresh rumours of a standalone Star Fox animated movie from Nintendo and Illumination. If Nintendo wants these brands to feel active before they hit cinemas, polished game remakes are an easy way to get fans talking again.

The big question now: how far is Nintendo willing to go with its N64 revival strategy? Star Fox and Zelda are obvious choices, but if this becomes a proper Switch 2 trend, fans will definitely start asking for more. Polygon even jokes about an F-Zero remake, and honestly, same. That one would go crazy.

For now, the confirmed news is simple: Star Fox lands on Switch 2 on June 25. The Ocarina of Time remake remains a rumour, but after this reveal, it suddenly feels a lot less like random fan wishlist noise.
