Pragmata Runs Better On Switch 2 If You Shrink It With GameChat

Switch 2 performance talk just got weird, bro.

Capcom’s Pragmata is already looking like one of the more solid third-party ports on Nintendo’s new hardware, but Digital Foundry has spotted a very odd way to make it run better: use GameChat, then shrink the game display.

Normally, Pragmata on Switch 2 appears to run somewhere around the 47-53fps range depending on what is happening on-screen. That is playable, especially for a console-handheld hybrid, but it is not quite the clean 60fps target that action game fans love.

Here is where the strange part comes in. According to Digital Foundry’s testing, opening GameChat and setting the game display to medium can push performance up to roughly 58fps. Shrink the display even further to small, and Pragmata can apparently hit that 60fps sweet spot.

Why? It is not magic. The smaller GameChat window seems to reduce the game’s rendering resolution. Digital Foundry notes that the medium view brings the game down to around 432p, while the small view drops it further to about 360p. Less resolution means less work for the hardware, so the frame rate climbs.

For Malaysian and SEA players, this is the kind of technical quirk that matters if you are the type who prioritises smooth gameplay over image sharpness. If you mainly play on the Switch 2 screen or are just chasing responsiveness, you might actually find this usable. But if you are docked to a TV, dropping the display into a tiny low-resolution GameChat window is obviously not the most syok way to enjoy a big Capcom sci-fi game.

It is also worth stressing that this does not seem to be a universal Switch 2 “performance hack”. Digital Foundry reportedly tested Layers of Fear from Bloober Team as well, and GameChat hurt performance there instead of helping it. For now, this looks more like a specific quirk involving Capcom’s RE Engine on Switch 2 rather than a trick everyone should use across the board.

So should you do it? Honestly, only if you are desperate for 60fps or just curious. Playing Pragmata in a smaller GameChat view is a funny workaround, but it is not a proper substitute for an official performance mode. You are basically trading image quality and screen size for smoother motion.

Still, it is fascinating because it shows how flexible — and occasionally bizarre — Switch 2 performance behaviour can be. For players in Malaysia who care about getting the best experience out of expensive new hardware, these small findings are useful. Sometimes the best setting is not hidden in the options menu; sometimes it is sitting inside a chat feature nobody expected to boost frame rate.
