Samsung Galaxy Tab A11 Plus Review Roundup: Budget Tablet With One Big Screen Problem
Samsung is back in the budget Android tablet fight with the Galaxy Tab A11 Plus, but don’t expect some crazy glow-up, bro. According to Android Authority’s review, this is very much a “safe Samsung” device: familiar design, basic hardware choices, decent performance, and one standout promise — long software support.
For Malaysian and SEA buyers, that matters because budget tablets usually live tough lives. They become YouTube machines, online class devices, mobile gaming screens, café work companions, and sometimes even the family’s shared Netflix tablet. So the real question is simple: is the Galaxy Tab A11 Plus boring in a good way, or boring in a “better wait for discount” way?
Same old body, still practical
Physically, the Galaxy Tab A11 Plus is almost unchanged from the older Tab A9 Plus. Android Authority notes that the dimensions are exactly the same at 257.1 x 168.7 x 6.9mm, with only a slight weight difference. The look is very standard Samsung: flat edges, metallic-style finish, one rear camera bump, and a single grey colour option.
Not exciting, but at least it doesn’t sound cheap. You still get useful budget-tablet features like a 3.5mm headphone jack and microSD card support. The tested 5G model also includes a physical SIM slot, which could be handy for SEA users who travel often or work from cafés where Wi-Fi is sometimes macam lottery.
The 5G version comes with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage, while the Wi-Fi model also has an 8GB RAM and 256GB option. No physical fingerprint scanner though — only 2D face unlock, which the review found unreliable enough that using a PIN became the better choice.
Also worth noting: no pogo pins for an official keyboard case, and no S Pen support. So if you want a proper note-taking or sketching tablet, this is not that device.
The display is the weak link
The biggest complaint is the screen. Samsung is still using a TFT LCD panel, and that’s rough in 2026, even for a budget tablet. TFT panels generally have weaker viewing angles and less impressive colours compared to IPS screens.
Android Authority found the display looked fine head-on, but dimmer and more washed out from angles. Colours also lacked punch, and reflections were a problem under indoor lighting. The tablet does have a 1,920 x 1,200 resolution, 90Hz refresh rate, and 480 nits peak brightness, so it’s not unusable. But if your main plan is anime, YouTube, Netflix, or manga reading, the panel is the part you’ll probably notice most.
For Malaysian buyers, this is important. A tablet at this level is often bought specifically for media, not productivity. If Samsung Malaysia prices this near the US budget range of around US$300 — roughly RM1,400 before local tax, promos, and retailer differences — the screen quality will need to compete hard with Lenovo, Xiaomi, and discounted older models.
Performance is surprisingly decent
The best part of the Tab A11 Plus is the chip. The US model uses a MediaTek MT8775, while global markets get the Dimensity 7300. Android Authority says performance is strong for this category, with apps opening quickly and only occasional stutters when multitasking with heavier apps.
Gaming is where it gets more interesting. PUBG Mobile reportedly ran at a smooth 60fps on low graphics settings, and casual to mid-tier games performed well. Just don’t expect miracles with heavier games like Genshin Impact or Fortnite.
That makes it a decent pick for lighter mobile gaming, cloud gaming, manga apps, Discord, YouTube, and school/work basics. Not a “gaming tablet” in the hardcore sense, but enough for many SEA users who just want a bigger screen than their phone.
Seven years of updates is the killer feature
Samsung ships the Tab A11 Plus with One UI 8 based on Android 16, and promises up to seven years of software and security updates. That is genuinely strong for a budget Android tablet.
You also get Samsung ecosystem features like Quick Share, Galaxy Buds pairing, split-screen multitasking, pop-up windows, and on-device DeX mode. There’s no full Galaxy AI package, but Circle to Search and Gemini support are available.
Battery life is also solid, with a 7,040mAh battery lasting around two to three days of mixed use in the review. Charging has been upgraded to 25W, though Samsung only includes a USB-C cable, not the wall charger.
Early verdict
The Galaxy Tab A11 Plus sounds like a very Samsung budget tablet: practical, reliable, and not very adventurous. The processor and update promise are legit advantages, especially if you want something to last years. But the TFT display is a big compromise, especially for Malaysians buying a tablet mainly for streaming, anime, or gaming.
If local pricing lands aggressively, this could be a safe buy. If it comes too close to better-screen rivals, then wait for Shopee/Lazada sales, bro.
